CALEXICO — The Calexico City Council approved by a vote of 4 to 1 to create a temporary housing center at Border Friendship Park during their recent regular meeting on Wednesday, March 15. According to city documents, the Temporary Local Assessment Center is being constructed as an emergency response to the release of substantial numbers of immigrants seeking asylum as they enter the city of Calexico. According to city documents, the city voted this past January to allocate $200,000 in funds from The American Rescue Plan (ARPA) to finance the construction.
